Technical requirements

What the Windows host needs to run sessions.

  • A supported Windows Server installation and administrator access to install the host, services and drivers.
  • The Windows Remote Desktop Services service (TermService, backed by termsrv.dll) installed, enabled and functioning. PrimalDesk relies on this Windows session infrastructure; it must not be removed or damaged.
  • A compatible NVIDIA, AMD or Intel GPU with a current driver and hardware video encoding support. Codec and color-format availability vary by adapter; the current host display path is SDR-only.
  • Enough CPU, RAM, GPU capacity and upload bandwidth for the applications and concurrent sessions you intend to run.
  • Working DNS, outbound connectivity to PrimalDesk services and permitted UDP session traffic. See Firewall and ports.

Virtual machines need a GPU configuration that exposes the required graphics and encoding capabilities. Start with one session and measure resource usage before increasing resolution or concurrency.
